The work week was over and Friday night rolled along and what better way to celebrate the end of a work week then to hit up a club or a lounge and get some of that good ol alcohol in you with a bunch of friends.

Now my friends have been raving on about this place where the venue looked amazing, was classy and the crowd a little older and mature. Its not like we don’t occasionally enjoy mingling with the younger crowds at a younger club but tonight we wanted classy. What was this wonderful place called? Brassaii, and it would have to live up to the great expectations that my friends had built up for me.

Upon entering I noticed that it was a cafe, restaurant and lounge, and since we went in around 11:30PM the cafe/restaurant portion was finished and this review will just focus on the lounge portion, if you want to know more about the cafe/restaurant portion please check out Brian’s entry on Brassaii.

Walking towards the entrance, unlike some other clubs I been to there was no real line up yet, must be quieter on a Friday night. The exterior of the building is better kept than some of the other clubs in the clubbing district in Toronto. It didn’t have the same industrial run down look your common clubs look like from the outside. This is probably because this place has to pass as a restaurant during the day. In general the exterior had a very old school downtown Toronto brick building look to it with a cobblestone entrance way and patio.

Upon walking inside, I thought the place was absolutely gorgeous in comparison to some other places I’ve visited. The lighting was relatively bright for a club/lounge setting and the decor inside impressed me quite a bit. Everything had a very contemporary feel and look inside with some touches of modern and interesting murals and pieces of artwork hanging inside. The bar was situated in the first room in the middle, it was basically two bars back to back of each other serving all the patrons there. Another impressive aspect of this place was how big it actually is, there is around 2 other rooms that were blocked off from us for the night, and from what I’m told it gets incredibly packed during a Saturday night and that’s when they open up these rooms, to provide extra dance floors.

Like any great club/lounge though, there are always 3 main things in my mind that a club must satisfy in order for it to be deemed a worthwhile club to go to; Music, Drinks, and People.

Of course anyone hitting up any clubs or lounges in general want to know what type of music do they play here. And for the crowds that have interesting or unique taste in music sadly won’t find their fix here. Generally the majority of the music played here is Top 40, so if you aren’t the ones that likes mainstream music, you might want to avoid this place.

Second part of the all important equation, the drinks. How are the drinks at Brassaii? Well let me tell you that they don’t skimp out on the alcohol, each drink tasted like it was supposed to and definitely did not feel watered down in any way whatsoever. However, for the high price tag of basically $8-9 per mix drink/shots I would expect nothing less.

Finally the last part of the equation for a good club, the people. The patrons that walk the floors of Brassaii are of your older and slightly classier crowd. Your average age of the people in the club is around 25+ and is basically your young professionals.  Dress to impress.

Overall, my general experience at Brassaii was a great experience, it wasn’t as packed as I was expecting, but the overall atmosphere and the people present made my night an enjoyable one.
