There is something relaxing about sitting in a sun lit room and sipping a cup of tea over light treats. T-buds offers just that without the froufrou of the plethora of Afternoon Tea services found downtown Toronto. Now, don’t get me wrong! I love the elegance and the upscale experience at places such as Windsor Arms Hotel but it’s nice to have an inexpensive alternative that offers a more casual experience.

T-buds is first a teashop offering fine teas with exquisite blends to take home or enjoy at the shop or both! They also have offerings of light meal items such as soups, salads, sandwiches and wraps, as well as sweet and savoury crepes.

Being that it was the late afternoon, we opted for the Savoury Cream Afternoon Tea. We were seated in their tea lounge on the second floor, walls adorn with oil and acrylic paintings.

There were plenty of cozy single and love seats for you to melt into, the perfect setting for a light afternoon meal and jazzy tunes to top it off with great company.

The Savoury Cream Afternoon Tea includes a pot of tea, two freshly baked scones with crème fraîche, jam, fresh fruit, and a plate of six assorted finger sandwiches. T-buds has an extensive tea menu and made my selection that much more difficult but I settled with the Pu-eur Cocoa buds. To sum it up in four words, chocolate-without-the-calories. It was a delicious tea!

The selection of sandwiches included cucumber, cream cheese and chives, seasoned tuna with lemon zest, and roast beef and horseradish-dijon. It was nothing spectacular. The fresh scones were light and fluffy with a wonderful light and crunchy exterior.

Overall, the portion size was perfect and light enough for a mid-afternoon meal. The service was great and our server, Amanda was knowledgeable about the teas and pleasant which made the experience all the better. T-buds also offers a full Afternoon Tea for $24, which includes a warm quiche, followed by a selection of tea sandwiches, freshly baked scones served with creme fraiche and jam, as well as petit fours and fresh fruit, served with a flute of their signature sparkling jasmine tea and a pot of tea. The tea lounge is open daily from noon to 6pm.

You will definitely find me back here absorbed in a good book over a cup of tea and a delectable snack!
